We are still rejoicing that Texas lawmakers passed pro-life legislation in their 2025 Regular Legislative Session that ended on June 2. Tragically, however, the Women and Child Protection Act (SB 2880) to stop the illegal trafficking of dangerous chemical abortion pills into Texas did not pass due to a deliberate delay by Chairman of the House Committee on State Affairs Ken King. But we are filled with hope as we have a second chance to protect women and babies from the deadly harm of chemical abortion.
On June 24, in an effort led by Council for Life Beneficiary Texas Right for Life, 98 pro-life leaders and organizations sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott urging him to call a Special Session of the Texas Legislature to pass the Women and Child Protection Act. On July 9, Governor Abbott issued a Proclamation for a 30-day Special Session to convene in Austin commencing at noon yesterday, July 21. The Proclamation specifically includes: “Legislation further protecting unborn children and their mothers from the harm of abortion.” (See Governor Abbott’s Proclamation HERE)
Lawmakers have until August 19 to pass the Women and Child Protection Act. If lawmakers do not pass the Act in the Special Session, the next opportunity for their consideration would not be until the 90th Regular Legislative Session in 2027.
Meanwhile, thousands of deadly chemical abortion pills continue to flow illegally into Texas, killing hundreds of babies every day and inflicting devastating harm and trauma upon countless women, including in our own Dallas / Fort Worth community. The urgency is beyond critical.
What Passage of the Women and Child Protection Act Would Mean
The Women and Child Protection Act would:
- Empower any Texan to bring legal action against a trafficker, distributor or manufacturer of abortion-inducing drugs.
- Allow families to file wrongful death lawsuits in the case of a woman harmed or killed by abortion-inducing drugs.
- Authorize the State of Texas to prosecute providers of abortion-inducing drugs.

Please Pray for Our Texas Legislators
Please pray for our Texas Legislators and for their prioritization to pass the Women and Child Protection Act. Please reach out to our Texas Senators and House Representatives to let them know you are praying for them during this Special Session. Encourage them to be bold in taking a pro-life stand. Remind them of the urgency to combat the violent destruction of innocent unborn babies and tremendous harm to women caused by chemical abortion.
