On May 18, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum shared his inspiring testimony with a sold-out crowd of over 300 men at the Council for Life Men’s Breakfast at Dallas Country Club.
Senator Santorum called the men to end abortion and boldly protect Life: “What a blessing to live at a time when God needs saints. God needs people to go out and fight these battles. And you are uniquely positioned to do that.”
He shared powerful reflections on his faith, family and political career, reminding the men to rely on God for the courage to stand alone against evil when others will not. He challenged the men to recognize their vital role as leaders for good in our families, work and communities.
“Do your vocation well. Love your children. Fight for the souls of your children. Be an example to the world. You’d be amazed at the ripple effect if you protect God’s children. You are doing something at the heart of God.” – Senator Rick Santorum
Loving Gabriel
A deeply moving moment came as Senator Santorum spoke about his infant son who lived just two hours after being born prematurely following complications in the womb. Senator Santorum reflected, “When we found out he was going to die, we didn’t kill him; we named him Gabriel Michael after the great archangels.” He described holding and baptizing his son in those precious moments: “I held him for two hours. That’s how long he lived. And all he knew was love.”
Fighting for Bella
He also spoke tenderly about his daughter Bella, born with Trisomy 18, a diagnosis many doctors and Americans consider hopeless. Despite medical personnel calling for Bella to be aborted and then sending her home from the hospital on hospice care, Bella survived and became a powerful witness to the value of every human life. Senator Santorum urged the men: “God will be faithful if you are faithful. If you stand and fight for His little ones, He will bless you.” Rick Santorum
Bella’s life inspired another mother to choose life for her own daughter who was also diagnosed with special needs. Through an amazing journey of God’s sovereign protection, the little girl was adopted by the Santorum’s daughter and became their first grandchild.
On Standing Boldly for Life
Senator Santorum reminded us that every life has inherent dignity because our rights come not from government, but from God. “Our Constitution is there to protect rights that you have because you are a child of God”
As he closed, he challenged all of us to live courageously. “What a blessing to live at a time when God needs saints. If you want to fight the battle of life, there’s no better place to fight it than right here and with Council for Life.”
