Beautiful, warm, welcoming and fun are some of the words that describe the Council for Life event Young Women and the Overturn of Roe hosted by Amity Gillespie in her home on August 3.
Amity opened the evening with an uplifting prayer and personal story. CFL YLFL Co-Chairs Julia Geyer and Patrice Peoples moderated the program and encouraged the young women to talk candidly about the Life issue. For many, it was the first time they had engaged in conversation about abortion and unplanned pregnancies.
CFL presented three short videos from pro-life non-profit Live Action, and the guests had heartfelt discussions following each one. (Watch the videos below.)
The first video, Baby Olivia, is a journey through the growth and developmental stages of a baby from fertilization to birth. The women were astonished at the clear humanity of the baby from the very first weeks following conception.
The second video recounted 20-year-old Natalia’s painful and heartbreaking chemical abortion experience. This video spurred deep, open discussions and empathy for the isolation and horror women suffer in a chemical abortion.
The third video featured 16-year-old Veronica and the trauma she felt upon discovering her unplanned pregnancy. Although she initially considered abortion and visited Planned Parenthood, Veronica researched and discovered Live Action videos detailing the abortion procedure. Veronica and her boyfriend were moved by what they learned and decided they did not want an abortion to take the life of their baby. They bravely chose life for baby Myles.
Common themes discussed throughout the evening were the need for parents to educate their children about human sexuality and the humanity of the unborn baby. There was a lively exchange about the abundant free resources for women facing an unplanned pregnancy or in need of post-abortion support and healing.
“I was grateful for the opportunity to open my home to young women to be educated about the Life issue and the work and mission of Council for Life. The ladies were blessed by the transparent conversation and fellowship during the evening,” said hostess Amity Gillespie.
The evening was inspirational and transformational, with many women interested in becoming involved with Council for Life.
