Building Futures for Homeless Mothers and Their Babies at Bella House

For a young, homeless woman pregnancy can be a very difficult experience. With no support, plan or place to lay her head, she may feel that she cannot choose life and provide for the tiny life growing inside her.

Bella House exists to serve and provide hope for these women who are desperate, scared and alone.

Bella House, a maternity home for homeless pregnant women with two locations in Dallas and Plano, provides shelter and a lifeline. The homes can house up to 11 women and their babies at a time, providing a safe, nurturing environment where they can stay for months, or even up to a year. But the impact of Bella House extends far beyond the walls of these homes. The mothers are supported every step of the way by a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about transforming lives.

At the heart of Bella House’s mission are the case managers—the heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes. These three full-time professionals walk alongside each woman, helping them navigate the complexities of life. They help mothers find jobs, secure housing and attend pre- and post-natal appointments, leading to healthy babies and empowered mothers. From securing practical essentials like identification cards and toiletries to providing emotional support, these case managers are invaluable. Even after mothers graduate and leave Bella House, the outreach case managers stay connected with them, providing continued needed support as the mothers build new lives for them and their babies.

Council for Life is proud and honored to award Bella House a 2024 grant for case workers’ salaries. These highly skilled professionals provide the compassionate guidance to ensure that every woman at Bella House leaves with the tools and confidence she needs for a better future for herself and her child.

“We are grateful for the financial support this year from Council for Life,” said Heather Potts, Executive Director at Bella House. “The work our case managers do is emotionally hard and sometimes they never get to see the fruits of their labor. However, when a mother with an unplanned pregnancy in our program desires a true transformation for her life, she embraces all we provide her, and she grows into an amazing mother and child of God. There is nothing more beautiful to witness. Thank you to Council for Life for helping our moms know they are loved and worthy.
